Muluemebet (Mulu) Chekol Hunegnaw is the Vice President of Strategy and Measurement and a member of the Executive Leadership Team at HIAS, a global non-profit organization with programs across Africa, Latin America and Caribbean, the Middle East, and Eurasia regions. Mulu is an economist by profession with expertise in strategic planning, program management, program design, and monitoring and evaluation. Mulu has previously served in various senior leadership roles, including as Save the Children USA’s Africa Regional Program Director, Country Director in multiple countries, mission monitoring and evaluation advisor at the United States Agency for International Development, where she provided leadership for institutionalization of a global monitoring, knowledge management, and accountability systems for the Save the Children Global Organization, an alliance of 30 national organizations operating in over 120 countries.
Mulu has several years of experience in managing partnerships with host governments and diversified development partners including the UN, bilateral, and multilateral donors. She has also served in various capacities with the Ethiopian Energy Authority. As the Senior Energy Expert, she has served as the core member of the National Energy Policy and National Energy Masterplan Development Task Force, reporting to the Prime Minister’s Office. Mulu has served as a board member for local NGOs in Ethiopia and volunteers in various community initiatives. She has represented children’s issues in various policy forums including testifying before the United States Congressional Committee on Foreign Affairs, sub-committee on Africa, regarding the growing crisis of Africa’s orphans. Mulu received a BA in Economics from Addis Ababa University and has a Master’s in Development Economics from University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. She is a Yale World Fellow of Emerging Global Leaders.
