OLAM’s Ethical Practices Spectrums are one of several tools and resources offered by OLAM’s Aspire program, which is aimed at improving ethical practices in international development. The spectrums pinpoint four stages along a continuum of ethical practices in four topics: communications, community engagement, global service (overseas volunteering), and monitoring & evaluation.

While few organizations will fit neatly into any one stage, the spectrums allow OLAM partners to identify potential areas for improvement, and will help them clarify specific actions they can take to reach the next stage.

OLAM acknowledges that our partner organizations range widely in size, capacity, mission, sectors, and more, and some organizations (especially those with smaller staff) may find it challenging to make the necessary changes in order to move forward on the spectrum. OLAM is available to support all partners in order to make this work manageable and realistic.
