8 Small ways to Make a Big Difference this Hanukkah

Let's make the festival of lights a little brighter...

  1. Advocate

This Hanukkah season use your voice to stand up for causes you believe in! Advocacy work can be done from the comfort of your couch to marching in the streets.  Find out ways you can shine light on causes like the refugee crisis, gender violence, & disaster relief today!

  1. Travel and Learn

It may be cold out, but we know you’re already thinking about summer vacation.  Want to travel with a purpose? See the world in a new light? From agricultural projects in Ghana, to a homestay in Nepal; start thinking now about ways you can travel while learning about the world, international development, and yourself now!

  1. Donate

Whether its $5 or $500, donating to a cause you believe in is a great way to spend money this giving season. Make a fun donation in someone’s name for an easy, meaningful present. Use some of your holiday bonus to leave a positive mark on 2016. Not sure about who to donate to? Check out one of OLAM’s 46 partner organizations for some quick inspiration.

  1. Gather

Nothing beats getting together with friends, family and fellow holiday spirited people this time of year. What makes this Hanukkah special? It’s Ha-New Yearsukkah!  As 2017 approaches ask yourself what do you want to be doing this upcoming year?  Sign up for a conference, a retreat, or a community event– get involved and make this year one for the books.

  1. Listen

On average, adults in the U.S. spend ~4 hours a day listening to music.  That’s 60 days a year! Take a look at OLAM’s Global Torah Podcast series and add some thought provoking ideas to your morning commute!

  1. Buy Ethically

Miracles and donuts aside, Hanukkah for many, means giving gifts. Challenge yourself to buy from companies you support. Gift giving shouldn’t just feel good, it should be good too.

Lucky for us, beautiful gifts that are also globally impactful and abide by fair trade have never been more accessible! There’s even fair trade Hanukkah Gelt!

  1. Study
