Learning to serve with humility is a lifelong practice that requires deep listening and learning, and demands an honest look at our own skills and talents, as well as a true understanding of our roles within broader efforts to achieve a more equitable world.Anavah, or humility, is a cornerstone of Jewish values and beliefs, no less important than the pursuit of justice and chesed (acts of loving kindness). This sourcebook contains traditional and modern sources about humility. We recommend that you study these texts in chevrutah – pairs. In the chevrutah method of study, two people work together to understand the meaning of texts and apply them to larger issues. In many ways, chevrutah is the embodiment of humility. It acknowledges that no one person possesses the full truth. It is only through discussion, debate, and an encounter with another person that true insight is achieved.
