Ethical Communications

Communications is a powerful tool that can support our work or hinder it. The words and images we choose, and the stories we tell, can perpetuate negative stereotypes of the communities we serve – or can create nuanced descriptions of the complex world in which we live. Ethical communications ensures accountability to the communities we serve and the community members with whom we work, by giving them a voice while protecting their safety, privacy, and agency. As such, ethical communications is one of the topics on which OLAM’s Aspire Ethical Practices Program is focused.

See OLAM’s ethical communications spectrum tool, which can help organizations working in the field of international development identify potential areas for improvement in their climate practices.
